Malvern Kudakwashe Marewo is a researcher affiliated with the Centre for African Studies at the University of Cape Town. He holds a PhD in African Studies from the University of Cape Town, an MSc in Development Studies from the National University of Science and Technology (Zimbabwe), and a BA in History and Development Studies from Midlands State University (Zimbabwe). Malvern participated in the participated in the 2020 JPS Writeshop. He employs Africa as a research lens, examining its trajectory from pre-colonial to contemporary times. His primary focus is on Southern Africa, drawing on insights from development studies, social theory, and political economy. His research explores land reform, governance, belonging, and the socio-economic impacts of displacement in the region. Malvern’s scholarly contributions, including numerous publications, advance critical debates on agrarian reform, political economy, and equity in Southern Africa.
