George T. Mudimu holds a Ph.D. in Public Management (Rural Development and Management) from China Agricultural University in Beijing, a Master’s in Public Administration from Tsinghua University in Beijing, and an Honours in Public Administration from the University of Zimbabwe. George’s current research is on counter-agrarian reform, capitalism, food systems, and rural politics. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Development Sciences at Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MUAST). He is also a book reviewer co-editor for The Journal of Peasant Studies.
George was a post-doctoral researcher under Sarchl Chair on Land, Poverty, Land And Agrarian Studies, Professor Ruth Hall at PLAAS, University of Western Cape (2020-2022). He was a Research Fellow for the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, Beijing (2017-2018), a research intern with the Sam Moyo African Institute of Agrarian Studies (2018-2018), and a member of the Emancipatory Rural Politics Initiative and the Collective of Agrarian Scholar-Activists of the Global South (CASAS).
George has published in leading international journals such as the Journal of Peasant Studies, Agrarian South, Journal of Political Economy, Review of African Political Economy, Journal of Contemporary African Studies, and GeoJournal. He regularly writes opinion pieces in newspapers in Zimbabwe and is the editor of the blog site Peasants Corners, which focuses on agrarian change. In addition, George has coordinated and co-organised several regional and international conferences on land, climate and agriculture.
George participated in the inaugural 2019 JPS Writeshop in Beijing. One of the most significant benefits of this experience was that he learned how to deepen his theoretical understanding of the key readings in agrarian studies and improved his skills in writing scientific articles. In addition, George met several like-minded comrades with whom he has formed important solidarity networks.
