Afonso Henrique Fernandes holds a Ph.D. in History from the Universidade Federal Fluminense. He is dedicated to teaching and research in Contemporary Social History of Latin America, as well as its political and cultural sociology. In this field he has been developing research focused especially on the role of organizations and associations of landowners and agro-industrial companies and the scientific and academic field in the construction of a historical social, political, economic and symbolic hegemony of large rural property in different Latin American countries. He also holds a Master degree in Social Sciences from the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, and he is a graduate in History from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He has been a professor at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais at the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia and he is currently a post-doctoral researcher of the project “Turning land into capital”, at the Centro de Estudios de la Argentina Rural at the Universidad Nacional de Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
