Carlos Bolomey Córdova is a rural sociologist based in the Centre for Rural Economy at Newcastle University, UK. His interests lie at the intersection of family farming, agrarian change, agri-food systems, and ethnography. He has extensive experience conducting ethnographic and collaborative work within indigenous territories in Southern Chile. During his PhD, he researched farmers’ and peasants’ attitudes regarding the arrival of fruit orchards (cash crops) which are expanding southwards and establishing a new frontier.

He is an active member of the agrarian change and supply chain thematic group run by CASAS. Currently, he is interested in looking at the governance shaping agri-food systems from a global perspective. He is particularly keen to examine transnational policy spaces where supranational bodies discuss and set the agendas that directly impact our conceptions about sustainable food systems.
