Communitarian Enterprises (CEs), referred to as Sharikat Ahlia in Arabic, have emerged as a focal point of attention in Tunisia, representing the promise of a new developmental model in a nation grappling with an economic crisis. President Kais Saied has championed these enterprises as a solution to rural poverty and landlessness, integrating them into his comprehensive agenda of alternative development, anti-corruption measures, and the pursuit of food sovereignty. This essay delves specifically into women-led CEs, examining both their potentialities and limitations. while also analyzing Saied’s alignment of women-led CEs with the political objective of achieving food sovereignty.
