Angela Serrano is a Colombian sociologist doing research at the intersection of global value chains, labor movements and political ecology. She is currently Assistant Professor of Sociology at Universidad de los Andes where she teaches courses on agrofood systems, Latin American studies, politically-engaged research, and research methods. Angela studies how different global industries shape life and work opportunities for rural communities in Latin America. Her research has been published by the Journal of Agrarian Change, Environment and Planning E, and the Journal of Political Ecology. Additionally, Angela works as a scholar-activist supporting palm oil workers’ unions in Colombia. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a M.A. in Geography from King’s College London, and undergraduate degrees in Economics and Political Science from Universidad de los Andes in Bogota. Carol Hernández
Carol Hernandez holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Portland State University, U.S., and is a professor/researcher at the University Program of Bioethics, National Autonomous University of Mexico. Her areas of interest focus on agriculture and climate change, seed sovereignty, and indigenous social movements.
